​The idea to form a new business administration program appealed to Prof. Amir Barnea, the school’s founding dean, when he was still teaching at Tel Aviv University. At the time, the universities’ existing business administration programs were rigid and archaic.

The school soon included faculty members from leading universities worldwide and gained a reputation for promoting academic excellence, while keeping abreast of current trends in the global business world. Over the years, the faculty has expanded to include leading financing and marketing researchers, who opted to leave some of the world’s leading universities to join IDC Herzliya. The school's values as reflected by its cutting egde programs are managerial agility and innovation.

It was Shari Arison who, after learning of IDC Herzliya, convinced her father, Ted Arison z"l, to contribute to the school’s construction. During the school’s inauguration ceremony, the late Ted Arison z”l told the students that “anything less than excellence isn’t good enough”.

The school’s biggest challenge, he said, “Is to become a part of the global world. Let’s make the global world’s raw materials into our raw materials and the world’s markets into our markets”.

​Efi Arazi School of Computer Science was formed with the aim of training Israel’s technologic leadership, and has championed academic, teaching and research innovation since its inception.

Prof. Shimon Schocken, the school’s founding dean, was enthused by
IDC Herzliya’s pioneering spirit and left a senior position at New York University to join its ranks. Some of the market’s leading CEO’s joined him in forming the board of trustees, including Gilat Satellite Networks CEO Yoel Gat; Mirabilis Chairman Yossi Vardi; NICE CEO Benny Levin; and Check Point CEO Gil Shwed.

In 1999, the late Efi Arazi z”l, a pioneer of Israeli high-tech, decided to form the "Efi Scholarship Program".

The grants were awarded to a select group of students, who had demonstrated proven entrepreneurship capabilities, leading to the formulation of an elite group of technological entrepreneurs.

His appreciation of IDC Herzliya’s achievements and the unusual path the school had chosen to venture on, prompted Arazi to donate to the construction of a school building in 2002, which was named for him.
