An historic and moving event took place at the beginning of 2018 when the Council for Higher Education approved IDC Herzliya’s request to begin the procedure for allowing the granting of doctoral degrees, eight years after the formal application was submitted.

The decision was made after IDC Herzliya met a series of stringent academic, economic and administrative requirements set by the Council for Higher Education. IDC’s doctoral program in Law will be headed by Prof. Aharon Barak, former Supreme Court President and one of Israel's leading jurists. With the approval of the doctoral program, IDC Herzliya will become the first private university in Israel.

The academic innovation and pioneering spirit of IDC Herzliya has led to the opening of new and groundbreaking academic programs. The Arison School of Business launched a new MBA in Healthcare Innovation, in cooperation with Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer, with the goal of preparing its graduates to lead entrepreneurship and innovation within the health system in the fields of technology, science, pharmaceuticals and digital.

A new track was also opened in the B.A. in Business Administration: the Business and Data Analytics track is designed to train students for the modern managerial environment. In the fast-paced world of information in which we operate, managers must face unprecedented and complex challenges.

This year, too, IDC was included in the Shanghai Ranking (the ARWU), which ranks institutions of higher education around the world. In 2018 IDC’s School of Communications joined the

Schools of Government and Psychology, which were first included in the 2017 index.

In October 2018, the construction of the dormitories project was completed and many students, both international and Israeli, began to populate the apartments. Each of the two dormitory buildings has 13 floors. The building of the dormitories marks another stage in the expansion of the services offered to students on IDC Herzliya’s university campus.

The Center for Developmental Social Neuroscience was launched within the Baruch Ivcher School of Psychology. The center is headed by Prof. Ruth Feldman, one of the leaders of the global revolution in the field of developmental neuroscience - the study of the development of the brain and the nervous system.

The center includes researchers from various fields who combine interdisciplinary, psychological and biological research on hormones, genetics, epigenetics, and the digestive and immune systems.
