In the proclamation of the establishment of IDC Herzliya, it was declared that Reichman University was intended to be a house of learning for residents of the region and for young Diaspora Jews.

It was this vision that led to the founding of the Raphael Recanati International School in 2001. The school opened around the same time that the Second Intifada broke out, and in its early days, only 30 students enrolled. Today, the RRIS is home to approximately 2,000 students from 90 countries.

Dozens of flags representing the international students’ countries of origin wave along the Raphael Recanati Avenue of Flags.

Reichman University makes a unique Zionist and societal impact, being the first international university in Israel. A special report published by the Council for Higher Education stated that Reichman University is the most international institution in Israel, with the highest number of international students studying for full degrees and the highest number of Jewish international students .

"It’s moving to see a small university with no government funding become the most important absorption center in the State of Israel."

- Prof. Uriel Reichman, president and founder of Reichman University.
