Prof. Uzi Arad | Reichman University

Prof. Arad served as National Security Advisor to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and served as Head of the Israeli National Security Council between 2009 and 2011. During Netanyahu's first term as PM Dr. Arad was his Foreign Policy Advisor (1997-1999).

Arad is currently serving as Professor of Government at IDC's Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy. He was recently elected Chairman of Israel's Institute of Defense Studies and appointed Executive Fellow at the University of Calgary. In 2005 he established and then headed the Atlantic Forum of Israel. Arad also founded and directed the Institute for Policy and Strategy at the IDC in 2000, where he launched and presided over the Annual Herzliya Conference Series.

Between 1975 and 1999 Arad served with Mossad, Israel's foreign intelligence service, where he held senior positions at home and abroad, his last position being Director of the Intelligence Division.

Prior to his career in government, Arad was a Professional Staff Member at the Hudson Institute in New York and a Fellow at Tel Aviv University’s Center for Strategic Studies. He received his M.A. (1973) and Ph.D. (1975) degrees in International Relations from Princeton University, which he attended as a Fulbright Scholar.

Arad is co-author of the New York Council on Foreign Relations' Sharing Global Resources (1979) and editor of The Balance of Israel's National Security and Resilience (2001, in Heb).
