Esther Cohen, Ph.D. (Michigan State University, 1973) is Professor Emerita and the former head of the Child-Clinical and Educational Psychology Program, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. She is also Prof. Emerita from the Baruh Ivcher School of Psychology at Reichman University (formerly the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya), where she served as the head of the Child-Clinical Psychology program during its establishment.
She is an accredited specialist and supervisor in Clinical Psychology, Developmental Psychology and Family Therapy. She served as a consultant to various Israeli organizations, including the Israel Center for the Treatment of Psycho-trauma: Ashalim programs for young children and their families, and the Haruv Institute for children suffering from abuse and neglect. She has spent sabbaticals as a visiting scholar in various international academic and clinical institutions including, the Family Therapy Institute of Washington D.C., the Child Study Center at the University of Minnesota, the Child Study Center at NYU Medical Center, and The Psychology Department at National Cheng-Chi University in Taipei, Taiwan. She also consulted at various centers in NYC as part of the relief efforts in the aftermath of the tragedy of September 11, 2001.
She initiated, developed and disseminated the “Integrative Model of Attachment based Parent Therapy”. She trains and supervises professionals dealing with problems of child development, adjustment and problems in parent-child relationships. She focuses in practice and in her research on therapeutic interventions for situations of trauma and on emotion regulation in parenting.
