Dr. Sarel Cohen | Reichman University

Dr. Sarel Cohen is a Senior Lecturer at the Efi Arazi School of Computer Science at Reichman University. His research spans algorithms, artificial intelligence, and brain research.
Sarel completed a dual B.Sc. in Computer Science and Mathematics, an M.Sc. in Computer Science, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science - all at Tel Aviv University. During his postdoctoral research at the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI), University of Potsdam, Germany, he worked in the field of Algorithms Engineering, conducting research in artificial intelligence (Computer Vision, NLP, Graph Neural Networks), as well as in efficient algorithms and their implementation.
In the four years prior to joining Reichman University, Sarel served as a Senior Lecturer at the Academic College of Tel Aviv-Yaffo, where he also conducted research on Brain-Machine Interfaces (BMI) in collaboration with Prof. Eilon Vaadia.
Alongside his academic career, Sarel has over 15 years of experience as a software engineer and researcher in the high-tech industry, both in large companies such as Google, Amazon, and Ericsson, and in startups such as NextSilicon, Fabrix Systems, etc. Between 2021 and 2025, he worked as a Senior Researcher at NextSilicon, focusing on algorithm development for novel hardware accelerators and High Performance Computing (HPC).
In teaching, Sarel initiated and led competitive programming courses across the academic institutions where he served, as well as project-based courses in which students engage in hands-on research as part of the course, to the extent that some of them even accomplish publishable results during the semester. This model is currently implemented at Reichman University as well.
To date, Sarel has published over 50 papers in academic conferences and journals, and holds over 10 patents.
