Understanding Israel: Politics, Society, Economy, and Security was a unique program developed specifically to engage senior foreign diplomats and representatives of major international organizations serving in Israel. This tailor-made program provides extensive information and expert analysis concerning Israel's political and constitutional system, its economy, society and culture, as well as the country's main security and diplomatic challenges.  The program initiated in 2009 provided a truly unique experience where foreign diplomats get to interact with some of Israel's most renowned public figures in a relaxed environment conducive to objective learning.

Starting in 2015, the program underwent a transformation and now offers a unique track at the annual Herzliya Conference, which includes A Special Breakfast Briefing for Ambassadors and Israeli CEO's with Maj. Gen. (Res.) Prof.  Amos Gilead. The lecture examines the current geopolitical, strategic and national security status in Israel and the Middle East, with a forward-looking perspective. Furthermore, the ambassadors receive a complimentary invitation to all conference sessions and events.

Additionally, the IPS hosts an Annual Strategic Assessment tailored for ambassadors and senior diplomats serving in Israel. Ambassadors and senior diplomats from over 50 countries take part in the briefing which focuses on Israel and the Middle East: risks and opportunities; the U.S. administration’s impact on Israel and the region; Israel from within: where we are headed; And strategic issues on the national security and foreign policy agenda.
