Democratic Research and Defense Project

Democratic Research and Defense is a distinctive initiative of the Rubinstein Center for Constitutional Challenges, conducted in collaboration with IDEA - The Center for Liberal Democracy.

 

The project seeks to examine governmental measures that pose potential threats to the democratic regime.

Its team, composed of senior legal scholars and practitioners, systematically analyzes the implications of legislation, executive decisions, and other governmental actions for the foundational attributes of democracy. These include, inter alia, the integrity of elections, the rule of law, equality before the law and the protection of human rights, the independence of institutional gatekeepers, and the resilience of the media and civil society.

 

The project’s findings are made accessible to the public and to decision-makers alike. Its distinctive contribution lies in its capacity to provide rigorous, reliable, and timely analysis in real time.

  • Adv. Gil Gan-Mor

    Project Manager, Senior Researcher

    LL.B. (Tel Aviv) and LL.M. (American University). 17 years at the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, litigating High Court petitions on democracy and human rights, including challenges to reasonableness doctrine and Judicial Committee.

  • Adv. lauren Eini

    Project coordinator

    Holds LL.B. and LL.M. degrees with honors from Reichman University. Completed her legal internship at Adv. Boaz Ben Tzur’s law office and previously served as a judicial clerk at the Tel Aviv Family Court. For five years, she was a teaching assistant to Prof. Yaniv Roznai.

    Senior researcher

    Holds LL.B. and LL.M. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Worked seven years in the Ministry of Justice, including as legal assistant to Deputy Attorney General Dr. Gil Limon, and most recently as Senior Law Clerk to Justice Grosskopf of the Supreme Court.

    A doctoral candidate in law at Reichman University under the supervision of Professors Aharon Barak and Yaniv Roznai. Holds an LL.B. and an M.A. in Government, both summa cum laude. Former intern in the High Court of Justice Department.
