Recommended Laptop Specifications and Guidelines for Reichman University Students 

 


A personal laptop computer is an essential tool for your academic success and for meeting the academic requirements of your studies.

 


The laptop will accompany you throughout your entire period of study and will be used, among other things, for participation in certain classes, completing assignments, exercises and computerized exams, accessing information databases, studying during emergency situations, and more.

 


Accordingly, proper and continuous learning requires the use of a laptop. You are therefore advised to equip yourself in advance with a functional and reliable laptop that will serve you throughout your studies.

*In cases where the academic program includes extensive mathematical and/or graphical processing, we recommend purchasing a more powerful processor, such as:
Intel Core i7 / AMD Ryzen 7 / Apple M4.

Important Notes

 

1. The use of tablets, including iPad or Chromebook, as a primary device is not permitted, as they do not provide the resources required to run the software used during studies and examinations, and in some cases software compatibility is incomplete. These devices may, however, be used as secondary devices for note taking, email, or other tasks.

 

2. University software supports Windows operating systems, and most software also supports macOS. Please note:

a. The University uses commercial off-the-shelf software and is not responsible for the level of compatibility of such software with the operating system installed on your computer.

b. Software Updates. As lecturers generally use the most up-to-date versions of software, you must ensure that you install all software updates provided by the software vendor, according to your operating system. Any mismatch between the version installed on your computer and the version used by the lecturer may cause difficulties.

c. Please note that according to the publication on the website of the Israeli Council of Certified Public Accountants, computerized council exams cannot be taken on Mac computers: https://www.gov.il/he/pages/exam_software.

 

3. Size and Weight: It is recommended to choose a computer that is not heavy or cumbersome to carry. At the same time, ensure that the screen size is sufficient for comfortable use.

 

4. Battery: It is important that the battery lasts for extended use during classes.

 

5. Ports: Ensure that the computer has sufficient ports for the peripheral equipment you intend to use.

 

6. Device Functionality: You must ensure that the camera, microphone, and wireless network connection function properly throughout the year, in order to enable full participation in online classes, exams, and submissions.

 

7. Operating System Updates: Full and proper integration with the software used during your studies requires an up-to-date operating system. You are therefore advised to ensure that all updates are installed.

 

8. Software Installation Permissions: You must have full permission to install software on your computer, without administrator restrictions, to enable the use of academic software and updates.

 

9. Microsoft provides every active student with an Office 365 license for the duration of their studies.

 

10. You must ensure that Microsoft Office is installed on your computer.

 

11. You must also ensure that your computer meets the software vendor’s prerequisite requirements for computerized exams, as detailed at: https://studentsupport.tomax.io/en/support/solutions/articles/246822-app-requirements.

 

12. During your studies, you will receive clear instructions regarding the installation of the examination software and participation in mock exams as part of the preparation for computerized examinations.

 

13. It is recommended that the computer includes hardware that supports the most up-to-date operating systems, with the highest possible processor speed and maximum RAM capacity.

 

14. It is recommended to consider purchasing extended warranty coverage for your computer.

 

15. Responsibility for the proper functioning, updating, and secure operation of the computer rests with you.

 

16. Responsibility for backing up personal data on the computer rests solely with you.

 

17. When using your personal computer on campus, in classes, laboratories, or the University’s online services, you undertake not to use the computer for any actions that may harm University systems, infringe copyright, or violate the law, and not to use software or perform actions that may endanger the University network.

 

18. Information Security:
a. It is important to install an up-to-date operating system that receives regular security updates.
b. It is recommended to install a computer protection system that includes at least antivirus and anti-spam protection.
c. It is recommended to install third-party software only from trusted sources.
