The shack used by Prof. Reichman, president and founder of the Reichman University, was formerly the army base's infirmary. Whilst the other shacks were run down and in bad shape, this shack was in relatively good condition thanks to the reserve duty soldiers who stayed in it right up to the opening of the campus; guarding the base, to ensure that trees would not be uprooted. When Prof. Reichman first visited the base he decided that as long as he holds office as Reichman University's president, this shack would be his office, and this remains true to this day. It was of great importance to Prof. Reichman to preserve as many army shacks as possible, reflecting in his practice the atmosphere of an academic kibbutz and modesty, an atmosphere characterizing Reichman University from its inception.
"On arrival to campus it was decided to preserve all the prefabricated buildings that housed the base's administrative functions. The president’s office shack was chosen due to its strategic location in the middle and its suitability to the architectural program."
