Embracing Change: Reflections from the Business Today Conference

My name is Lilach Kraaijenhagen, a second-year student in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship, and I had the honor of representing the Adelson School of Entrepreneurship as its ambassador at this year’s Business Today Conference in New York City. This prestigious event brought together students from across the globe and top business leaders to discuss this year’s theme, “Renaissance,” exploring the evolving landscape of business and innovation. The experience was an inspiring deep dive into the future of leadership, providing me with invaluable insights, impactful connections, and lasting inspiration that I’m excited to share.

Attending the Business Today International Conference was an inspiring experience, especially listening to the CEO of Paramount Scott Mills. He shared an exciting vision of the future of storytelling: with AI, anyone could create full-length movies or series with minimal costs, transforming the world of entertainment. While this change might seem overwhelming, with endless content available, it also presents an incredible opportunity.

Rather than fearing AI, he encouraged us to see it as a tool—a way to amplify creativity, not replace it. AI will open doors for those with a story to tell, enabling more people to bring their ideas to life. Paramount aims to stay a trusted source of quality amidst the abundance, reminding us that a strong brand and purpose can guide audiences through the noise.

This new renaissance is essential, as AI opens pathways for creativity, empowering more people to share their narratives. For us as students and future leaders, this means embracing innovation without losing sight of our values. The real power lies in using technology thoughtfully, with creativity and purpose.

Another moment that inspired me was during a key note session with Paul Griggs, CEO of PWS. When I asked how he balances his personal life and career, his response was deeply impactful. He explained that to build a successful career, your personal life is just as important as your professional ambitions. If you're career-driven, choosing the right partner is essential, as they’ll significantly influence your journey.

He emphasized that a supportive partner and strong personal network can be the foundation for achieving your goals. His words made me realize that success isn’t just about hard work; it’s also about surrounding yourself with people who uplift and encourage you. This perspective inspired me because it highlighted the importance of choosing relationships that align with and support my ambitions.

At the Business Today Conference, I had the chance to connect with a 150 talented students from around the world. Despite our diverse backgrounds, one thing united us: a shared passion for building meaningful relationships. This experience made me realize how important it is to stay open to everyone, regardless of their background or appearance. If we approach each person with curiosity and openness, we can learn something valuable from them, and doors of opportunity will open.

One of the most important lessons I took away was the power of networking with a giving mindset. A keynote speaker shared that the key to building lasting, impactful connections is not asking what others can do for you, but how you can help them. Inspired by this, I applied it when I met a remarkable student, Yarra Kiseleva, studying Law and Computer Science in University of Queensland, Australia, which is also a Co-founder of SeatFinder, a startup helping people in the APAC region find rewards seats.

Her startup went live one month ago, and when she mentioned her marketing struggles, I offered my help and showed genuine interest. She welcomed me onto her team, and in doing so, I not only joined an exciting venture and a valuable business connection, but also a supportive friend.

Together, these lessons taught me that true connections are built on openness and mutual support, and by focusing on giving, we create meaningful relationships that lead to unexpected opportunities.
