The Scojen Institute for Synthetic Biology at Reichman University proudly hosted the 1st Scojen Conference for Synthetic Biology, held in conjunction with the 3rd annual meeting of the Israeli Society for Synthetic Biology (ISBC). This event, conducted from September 16-18, 2024, provided a platform to celebrate one year of the Scojen Institute's contributions to Israeli science and technology.
With over two days of keynote addresses, presentations, and networking, this conference brought together prominent academics and professionals in synthetic biology, biomedicine, and bioconvergence. Keynote speakers included Prof. Farren Isaacs from Yale University, Prof. Ron Weiss from MIT, and Prof. Christopher Voigt, also from MIT, who shared groundbreaking insights on topics such as genome recoding, programmable organoids, and multicellular "brain" reprogramming. Sessions covered advanced themes, including synthetic microbiomes, biomedicine, bioengineering, and synthetic biology applications for environmental sustainability.
The event culminated with a hands-on workshop titled “An Introduction to Bioconvergence and Synthetic Biology – Where Life Sciences Meet Engineering” on September 18, offering participants practical exposure to these rapidly evolving fields. Prof. Yosi Shacham of Reichman University and Prof. Ramez Daniel from Technion co-chaired the conference, while Dr. Ilana Kolodkin-Gal and an advisory committee of international experts guided the event's scientific direction.
