Boaz M. Ben-David, Ph.D. an associate professor at the School of Psychology, the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya, where he heads the Communication, Aging and Neuropsychology lab (CANlab).
He holds adjunct faculty positions at the University of Toronto (Department of Speech-Language Pathology) and at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. His research interests are: A. the premise that reductions in the quality of the sensory input in older age will result in less efficient cognitive functioning, specifically when communicating in adverse environments (such as a noisy restaurant). B. Promoting better and more valid ways to test cognitive, hearing and speech production abilities across the life span. C. Speech perception in adverse conditions in aging. D. The complex interplay that governs the perception of emotions in speech, in different populations. E. Social cognition, taking into account both cognitive and social aspects of basic psychological questions.
He has published over 50 peer-reviewed papers and chapters and received several prestigious awards and grants, these include (1) Europe: Marie Curie (2) Canada: Alzheimer's society; (3) US: Global Aging Initiative (4) Israel: Israeli Ministry of Science; and (5) international: International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics. Professor Ben-David has over 15 years of academic teaching experience in Canada and Israel and received several teaching awards.
