Grow together

An app designed to enhance quality time for couples in a romantic relationship

What is it?

Grow Together is an app designed to enhance quality time for couples in a romantic relationship who are experiencing burnout, whether due to the pressures of life or the natural wear and tear that sometimes happen in relationships.

The app is based on the psychological theory of "Self-Expansion." it refers to the process of positive growth and broadening a person’s self-perception by acquiring new experiences, skills, perspectives, or resources. This concept is rooted in the idea that humans have an innate motivation to expand their understanding of themselves and the world around them.

The self-expansion model suggests that the drive to expand one’s self-concept is a basic human motivation. Self-expansion involves integrating elements from external experiences or relationships into a person’s identity, thus enhancing self-efficacy, knowledge, and personal growth.

The purpose of the app is to invite couples to enrich their quality time with activities based on interests they have indicated in a questionnaire that they wish to experience. The app matches their answers and suggests activities that encourage couples to step out of their comfort zone and expand themselves and their relationship in an optimal way.

How does it work?

First, each partner separately answers a short questionnaire designed to reflect their interests and the areas they would like to try, such as nature trips, culinary experiences, couples sports, woodworking/pottery workshops, and more. After each partner has answered the questionnaire separately, a QR Code will be revealed which one of the partners will scan. The app will synchronize the answers from both questionnaires based on the Self-Expansion Theory and suggest to the couple shared interests with the highest potential for creating personal and relational growth. Each partner can choose an activity that expands their interests and then will receive three options to choose from. For example, if the app finds that the couple each separately chose cooking and world travel, it will suggest cooking experiences from places around the world, food tours focused on specific cultures, or a country-based meal. Each option will include additional details such as price, location, and an explanation of how the proposed activity will expand and nurture the couple.
