Hoppale
An app for recent retirees to rediscover everyday social connections.
What is it?
Hoppale is an app designed to help recent retirees rediscover the casual social interactions that often disappear after retirement. Based on the” Weak Ties” theory, it encourages spontaneous, low-commitment neighborhood encounters that strengthen belonging and well-being. The app creates "planned serendipity" by recommending nearby activities that match the user's interests and availability within the next 24 hours. After each activity, users complete a brief reflection to reinforce the value of everyday social connections and encourage continued engagement.

How does it work?
Upon registration, users complete a short questionnaire about their interests, availability, transportation preferences, and comfort level with meeting new people. Based on this profile, the app recommends nearby activities taking place within the next 24 hours. Activities are ranked using the "Tov-Karov" slider, allowing users to balance between personal interest and geographic proximity. Each activity displays the distance, meeting time, and number of participants, and registration is completed with a single click.
At the end of the meetup, the reflection process asks users how they felt, whether they had the opportunity to speak with someone, and what they would like to remember from the experience. The purpose of the reflection is to strengthen the user’s awareness and understanding of the importance of weak ties. At this stage, the user can also add a voice recording.
The mobile app was created using Figma and Loveable software.
