Greeting Machine is an abstract robotic object engineered to initiate social interactions by engaging passersby and catalyzing opening encounters.

What is it?

In our work on the Greeting Machine, we set out to redefine robotic interactions by designing an abstract object that sparks spontaneous, human-centered encounters. Rather than adhering to conventional roles, the machine invites playful engagement, prompting users to connect in ways that blur the traditional boundaries between art and technology. Presented at RO-MAN 2018, this project reflects our belief that thoughtful design can transform routine interactions into meaningful experiences, challenging expectations and opening up new avenues for communication in everyday settings.
