Publications
Milana Frenkel-Morgenstern has published over 80 papers in reputable journals and serves as an editorial board member. She has been the founder of special scientific Art in Science competition, at the international Bioinformatics conferences since 2008, the chair of the ISCB affiliated Israeli Bioinformatics group and the head of the "Cancer Genomics and BioComputing in Complex Diseases" group at the Azrieli faculty of Medicine, Bar-Ilan University. Her group has developed unique protocols for cell-free DNA isolation and its analysis using patented techniques, and they work on the evolution of protein interaction networks. Their work contributes to understanding cancer genomics and developing new computational methods to analyze complex diseases, enhancing the field of bioinformatics and personalized medicine.
Dr. Frenkel-Morgenstern research focuses on cataloging chimeric transcripts specifically and highly expressed in various cancer types, studying the potential functions of their corresponding fusion proteins to identify potential drug targets. (Frenkel-Morgenstern, Gorohovski et al, Nucleic Acids Research, 2012; Frenkel-Morgenstern, Lacroix et al, Genome Research, 2012; Frenkel-Morgenstern and Valencia, Bioinformatics, 2012) Over the past five years Dr. Frenkel-Morgenstern has worked on cancer fusion transcripts, proteins, and protein-protein interaction networks, at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO). She has significantly contributed to promoting the field by discovering fusion transcripts and proteins in several organisms (Frenkel-Morgenstern, Gorohovski, et al, NAR, 2015).
