Democratic Backsliding and Public Opinion
in Times of Crisis

Last week, the Institute for Liberty and Responsibility, in collaboration with The Program on Democratic Resilience and Development (PDRD) and the Adenauer Foundation (KAS), from the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy, and Strategy at Reichman University, held a research workshop on "Democratic Backsliding and Public Opinion in Times of Crisis".

The workshop featured Prof. Christopher (Chris) Klassen from the University of Glasgow, one of the leading researchers in the world on public opinion during democratic decline, Prof. Jennifer Ausher and Prof. Gal Arieli from Ben-Gurion University, Dr. Alon Yakter from Tel Aviv University, Dr. Liron Lavi from Bar-Ilan University, and Prof. Sandra Dessterde from Reichman University and the University of Freiburg.

Additionally, the head of the Institute for Liberty and Responsibility, Prof. Amnon Cavari, and other researchers from the institute, including Prof. Asif Efrat, Dr. Yair Amiti, and Dr. Omer Yair, participated in the conference. During the event, they presented their new research and held a discussion on the impact of public opinion on democratic decline and the effects of democratic backsliding on liberal and democratic values in Israel and around the world.
