“Promoting Dialogue Through Music”

The “Promoting Dialogue Through Music” initiative operates within the Baruch Ivcher School of Psychology at Reichman University. The project develops models and programs under the banner “Music for Dialogue” to foster connections, mutual support, personal and group resilience, and collaborative efforts through music, using an innovative method that transcends sectors, cultures, and ages. It is important to note that these programs do not involve creating or learning music and therefore require no prior musical knowledge, making them suitable for everyone.

"Music for Dialogue"

The “Music for Dialogue” method introduces a new kind of language, blending the unique qualities of music with both verbal and non-verbal language. The programs we have developed involve a series of processes and practical experiences that enable and encourage personal expression, deep, inclusive and empathetic listening, mutual support, and collaborative action.

The programs involve sharing music, songs, and the personal stories associated with them, using these as a starting point and catalyst for sharing personal narratives, listening to and honoring others’ personal stories, opinions, and feelings, and fostering mutual support and collective action. These processes strengthen individual, familial, and community-social aspects and contribute to personal and group resilience. They are also effective in trauma situations where music can help “when trauma takes away the words.”

The programs utilize specially developed internet tools that enable the sharing of songs and personal stories while maintaining complete discretion.
